A: It’s normal for Scrabble Complete to display a black screen when you first start it up. The screen should fade to the Infogrames screen after a few seconds though it might take 20 or more seconds depending on the speed of your computer. If the screen is still black after several minutes you are most likely having a problem between Scrabble Complete and an internet firewall program.
Follow these steps to update the firewall settings in windows XP:
- Click on Start
- Click on Run
- Click on Network and Internet Connections
- Click on Windows Firewall
- Click on the Exceptions Tab
- Click on the Add program button
- Scroll down the list and find Scrabble Complete
- Click on Scrabble then Click on the Ok button
- Click on the next Ok button
- Close the Network and Internet connections screen
- Now try running scrabble.
Type in the word “control” (without the quotation marks) and click on Ok
If Scrabble still won’t run you may need to add DPLAYSVR.EXE to the list of programs that your firewall permits to have access to the internet.
These instructions are only good for the firewall built into Windows XP. If you are running Windows 95/98/Me or Windows XP with ZoneAlarm, McAfee firewall, Norton firewall or some other firewall program you will need to contact that company and ask them how to configure their software to allow Scrabble Complete both Internet and Server access.
