Yesterday we made rotating can cozies. Here’s how to make your own (if you don’t like monsters or princesses):
Begin with a regular 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of paper (aligned portrait-style). Construction paper is sometimes a little bigger than 8.5 x 11, but that’s O.K.
Using a ruler, draw two parallel lines across the page. Make them 3.75″ apart. This is about the height of a soda pop can.
Then draw vertical lines at 2.75″ increments to break up the page. The boxes that form define the maximum area you can draw the characters in. If you’ve measured correctly, you’ll have a quarter inch left over on one side. Just make sure to tuck this under when you tape everything together.
Having a box to draw in is great, but it doesn’t do a lot to help you make sure everything is going to line up properly. What I prefer to do is to draw vertical lines at 1/375″ (one and three eighths), 4.125″ (four and an eighth), and 6.875″ (six and seven eighths). (Draw lightly).
This is the center-line of your drawing area. Draw your characters so they all line up down the middle of these lines. This will help to make sure everything lines up when you match different heads to different bodies.
Finally, mark where you want to separate the characters and cut apart. Tape the strips into rings and voilla!
