I was bopping around on the San Diego Zoo’s website this weekend and I came across a notification that this week is Bear Awareness Week!
I’m a little bothered that the first event listing they had was for pandas, which I have always been told are related to raccoons, not bears. But I’m just being nit-picky, I suppose. They’re big, fuzzy, and can rip your face off… close enough, I suppose.
It turns out that Bear Awareness only a San Diego Zoo thing, and not a national holiday, leaving me feeling a little let down. I was hoping for bear themed parades, bear shaped cookies and the like, but, just like on every pay day I’m becoming accustomed to disappointments.
PHOOEY on that, I say!
I’m going to have my very own Bear Week starting here and now!
Everything for the rest of the week will be bear themed, and you can bet there’ll be honest-to-gosh bears involved. No Pandas Need Apply.
