Supervision is required.

What you will need:

  • Empty Jar (a baby food jar or the like works well)
  • Florist Clay (can be found at any craft store and is a must because it is water resistant)
  • A small figurine (anything that will not deteriorate in water will work; anything from a small snowman to a matchbox car or a little green army man… use your imagination)
  • White or silver glitter
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbon or felt
  • Garland or plastic greenery (just a small piece if you want greenery in the snow globe)

How to make it:

Step 1 1. Clean the jar thoroughly

Step 2 2. Using the florist clay attach the figurine to the lid of the jar securely (you can also use some hot glue to ensure that it holds tight). To see how it will fit inside simply place the glass portion of the jar over for a test fit. Be creative and use anything you can imagine that will not deteriorate in water, also attach any greenery now too.

Step 3 3. Fill the jar within a half-inch of the top with cold water and add glitter (about ¾ of a teaspoon for smaller jars, and adjust accordingly for larger ones).

Step 4 4. Using the hot glue gun, line the inside of the lid generously with glue, insert figurine in the water and screw on the lid. DO NOT TURN IT OVER YET!

Step 5 5. Dry the outside edge of the seal if any water spilled out, and apply hot glue to the seam of the lid and jar as an extra seal. DO NOT TURN IT OVER YET!

Step 6 6. Let it stand to dry over night, lid side up.

Step 7 7. You can use the ribbon or felt to cover or decorate the lid so that it looks less like a jar.

Step 8 8. Now turn it over and enjoy.

Extra Tips:

  • Keep the figurine secure, be sure that when shook the globe contents will not break free.
  • Don’t add too much glitter, otherwise you will not be able to see the figurine clearly.
  • Use different colors of glitter or have your snow globe themed, such as using red white and blue glitter and some sort of patriotic figurine for the Fourth of July, etc.
