After you have taken that great family vacation to the beach you may want to be sure to grab some souvenir sand. You can create more memories by being creative with your kids, the sand, and a bottle. It is a simple way to form a decoration piece from your vacation by coloring that sand and making designs in a bottle.

It is easy to color the sand by separating it into bowls for each color. Then by taking food coloring and a little water you can start the designing. You want to place enough water in the bowl that it is just covering the top. Select the colors that you want to use and add generous amounts of food coloring to the bowl. Let your children help stir the sand and place it aside for awhile to set. The next step is to remove the excess water then placing it on paper towel to dry.

Once you have all the desired colored sand created you can then gather unique bottles to fill. Bottles that have interesting shapes allow for great decoration pieces. You want to use a funnel to add the sand; by layering you can form fun patterns. After you have filled the bottle you want to lightly tap the top with a rubber hammer or a similar object. This makes the sand more compact so you do not lose your design. Finding a rubber stopper or cork puts the finishing touches on the project. You can then place it somewhere in the house that you will be able to see it and reflect on the good memories.
