Fireworks

July 4th is quickly approaching! Help your children celebrate and show their true colors with some of these patriotic crafts!

Make a personal flag to show your true spirit!

Buy a piece of poster board to use as your flag. Use various materials such as construction paper, glitter, markers, and crepe streamers to spruce up your flag. Have your child draw pictures and use photos or collages that represent what is important to them (This is also a good opportunity to sneak in a little history lesson and discuss the meaning behind the 13 stripes and 50 stars of the American Flag). After each flag is complete, you can either find a place to proudly display them or attach each flag to dowel rods and parade them around the house.

Use Marbles to Paint Independence Day Masterpieces!

All you need is:

  • 3-4 colors of Tempera paint
  • Paper
  • Several marbles
  • A container (shoe box, shallow baking dish, etc.)

Once you’ve gathered your supplies, find a safe area to work then place a sheet of paper in your container. Then pour a few drops of one color into the tin. Next place a marble in the container and roll it around by moving the box from side to side. This should produce several trails of color. Repeat these steps 2-3 more times with varying colors until you are left with a beautiful painting reminiscent of a fireworks display!

Say Hooray for Independence Day with this Festive Noisemaker!

Use an empty cardboard toilet paper tube as a party shaker! Simply fill it with bells and beads and close it by taping cardboard circles to the ends. Then cover the tube with a red, white, or blue piece of construction paper leaving at least 4 inches of excess paper on each side. Next make 4-inch long cuts every ½ inch, now your noisemaker has fabulous fringe! Feel free to add more flair to the instrument by adorning it with star cutouts and patriotic stickers
