Camping is a great summer family activity, but it can also be a stressful experience if not planned out in advance. Here are just a few tips to help you when planning your trip to minimize stress and maximize fun:

When packing for your trip, it is helpful if you plan your outfits in advance to avoid over-packing. Depending on your method of camping, carrying heavy bags can be overwhelming (packing light also saves room in the car for other necessary camping items).

It is also a good idea to place each outfit into a large Ziploc bag—this way you can just pull out the bag you want for that day, plus your clothes stay extra dry if it rains!

If you decide to really rough it by camping in tents, make sure that your tent can withstand the weather. It might be better to spend a little more money on a better tent than to save money on one that might not survive the trip.

When setting up camp, make sure to examine the surrounding area first to avoid rougher terrain that will be uncomfortable to sleep on. Also, if possible, it might be best to set up camp close to any main lodge on the grounds in case the conditions get too unbearable and you want to go somewhere to wait out the weather.

Now what about food? Just like with your outfits, it is best to plan your meals in advance. That way, you know exactly what you need to bring and can prepare it with ease. Hamburgers and hot dogs are always good camping foods, but you can make a variety of things over a campfire with the right equipment.

You can even make pancakes on a griddle made specifically to sit over campfires. Whatever you decide to make, be sure to have really good cookware as that will dictate what you are able to make when you are camping.

And of course, no camping trip would be complete without s’mores, so make sure you bring plenty of marshmallows! No matter what kind of camping experience you have—whether tents or cabins, campfires or grills—careful planning can make all the difference and allow you and your family to have a truly memorable time.

I’m a mom of 4 and we do a lot of camping. This artical is great but should also include bringing bug repelant and treatment for bites. We always bring ant bait and a rake to clear out tent site! Happy camping. :-)
