Do you have a child that loves animals? Any aspiring zoologists? Many children believe that they are limited as to how they can help animals at their age. In order to fill the monotony of summer, help your children realize their potential in fulfilling their dreams of helping endangered animals. Here are some easy ways they can help:
- One of the most important ways to help threatened animals is by keeping their habitats clean and free of harmful debris. Take your child to a local park to pick up what other citizens have left behind. You can even make this into a timed contest between children, and give the winner $20 to donate to their favorite animal’s charity fund.
- Take your child to the nearest national park and take part in a guided tour. Your child can ask the ranger questions about how the animals are being protected and what they can do to help.
- A fantastic way of helping animals is by creating a place for them to live. You can get your child involved by helping them build a birdhouse. Your local library and wildlife department are great resources for finding blueprints. Remember to use non-toxic paint, and mount the nest boxes away from easy access from predators!
- If your child is concerned with endangered species, he/she can help by just drawing a picture. Find out which animals are endangered in your area and have your child draw a picture of the animal next to drawings of the biggest threats to its survival. Send this picture, along with a short letter from your child, to your senator or a representative. If you do not know your local senators or representatives names and addresses, you can call your local library to find out.
